Fufu met appelmoes
Development and realization within the VPRO Dorst trajectory
2020
Mixed blood flows in the veins of filmmaker Roziena Salihu. She is both Ghanaian and Dutch. Her Ghanaian father left the family when she and her brother were still young. As a result, she was raised by her white mother in a white village. This experience marked her childhood and forms the foundation for a paradoxical existence, because: she is as black as she is white. Or is it the other way around? In the white village where she grew up, Roziena is black, but with her family in Ghana, she is considered mixed or even white at times.
In the documentary fufu met appelmoes , Roziena searches within her family for an answer to the question: how come I don't know my cultural identity?
