When Dianne took her own life unexpectedly, her family was left with many questions. This documentary follows Dianne's sister Rachel on her quest for answers. Why was Dianne living a double life? Through conversations with the family, Dianne's fellow students, and housemates, Rachel attempts to reconstruct the last years of Dianne's life. She also reviews text messages, watches recordings from the family archive, and retrieves data from Dianne's computer. Did Rachel, her other sisters, and their parents perhaps overlook any signs?

Schijnstudent Premiered at the Dutch Film Festival and received extensive media coverage after the television broadcast. Articles were published in various newspapers including NRC, Het Parool, and Trouw. Leon and Rachel also appeared on the talk show program Op1 to discuss the film. The documentary received an NPO Start award for 'Most streamed documentary of 2022.
